Internet sensation Afishal has been named as the opening act of the Lighting Design Awards ceremony.

The visual DJ – whose latest video has been viewed an astonishing 20 million times – will kick off the 2017 event with the unique blend of visual and audio performance that has filled stadiums and festivals all over the world.

‘We’ve long been admirers of Afishal and he was number one on our target list’ said Lighting Design Awards creative director Ray Molony. ‘As you can imagine, we’re thrilled to have secured him for this year’s awards evening’.

Afishal will use his spectacular interactive drum kit to ‘play’ a section of his complex multi-media show at the London Hilton Park Lane on Thursday 4 May.

‘The overall effect of the music, graphics and lighting makes this show unique and has helped create a viral internet sensation,’ said the DJ. ‘It’s highly visual and exciting, but it also plays upon the emotional response of the audience.’

He reserves  a lot of praise for his team of engineers. ‘I have a highly professional team of sound and graphics specialists behind me’.

It’s been recently revealed that a British company has been working in the background to help create the Afishal experience. Coventry-based business Maxilux LED Lighting designed the LED display that has been integrated into the bespoke drum kit so that it explodes into colour with every contact made between the drum stick and skin.

Maxilux managing director Richard Cockayne said: ‘The link between Maxilux and Afishal has grown into a fully working professional relationship which is why we are creating this brand new rig for him that will be even more sophisticated than anyone has seen before – it will be a real crowd pleaser for 2017.’
